Problem solving

Brought in to solve a business problem

Something in the business is stuck and software is either the cause or the fix. You bring us in for that one problem. We work out what is wrong and fix it. Then we hand it back to you or stay on to look after it.

Sounds familiar

Problems that cost money every week

None of these is a software project on paper. Each one is a business problem with software in the middle of it.

A job eats somebody's week

Figures are copied by hand from one system into another. A report takes two days to put together. It works, but it ties up a person who should be doing something else.

Two systems will not talk

The website takes orders and the office system needs them. Or a supplier changed something and the connection between you broke.

A system everyone avoids

It still does a real job, but the person who wrote it has gone and it sits on versions that are out of support. Nobody wants to be the one who changes it.

What we take on

Hired for a result

Tell us what the problem costs you and what fixed would look like. How we get there is our concern. The language the software is written in is no longer the deciding question.

Our work has run from large systems built for corporations to small websites for small companies. Each one gets the same care.

Most of what reaches us is already in production and somebody depends on it every day, so we change it carefully.

How it goes

From a problem to a fix

The job is agreed before it starts and stays inside what was agreed.

1

The brief

What the problem is, what it costs you and what fixed looks like. Written down and agreed before any work starts.

2

Look first

We get the software running and find out how it is deployed, including any steps that were never written down.

3

Fix it

One piece at a time, with each piece tested before the next one starts.

4

Hand it back

You get the code, the notes and the logins. If you would rather we kept it running, it moves onto a care plan.

Questions about hiring us

What people ask first

What do you mean by problem solving?

A small team brought in for one defined problem. We agree what fixed looks like before we start, do that job and leave you with everything we did.

Does it matter what the software is written in?

Less than it used to. What we need is the code, access to where it runs and somebody who knows what the business needs from it.

How is a job like this priced?

As a piece of work with a clear edge to it, agreed before anything starts. If it turns into something bigger we stop and talk before going further.

Will you work alongside our own developers?

Yes. We can take on the one problem your team has no time for and leave them with what they need to carry it on.

Tell us about the problem

What it is costing you, what has been tried and what fixed would look like. We will come back with questions and a clear answer on what it would take.
